Charlotte Pride

BRANDING

In 2018 Charlotte Pride put out a call for local designers to help them navigate a re-branding effort. Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I was excited to answer that call. During the weeks that followed I heard their desire for a re-fresh of their current logo, but ultimately decided that the organization needed so much more.

I presented a new word mark that at first glance is unapologetically queer. The almost spastic nature of the characters showcases the diversity that can be found at any of their events. The color pallet, which was built from the Charlotte Hornets teal and purple, created a modern new take on the traditional rainbow the organization used in years past.

Members of the Charlotte Pride staff and Board of Directors were split on the final direction. Some said it was just what the organization needed, others said it was too progressive. Even though they decided not to implement the work I created, I still consider it a success. It taught me a valuable lesson in Brand Expression and that even logos can be inclusive.
